A "Day for All Women" takes place Saturday, April 17, 2010, from 8:30 am to 4 pm, at the Petaluma Community Center. It is sponsored by The Women's Cancer Awareness Group (WCAG). The day will include Debbie Abrams from KZST Radio as Mistress of Ceremonies, morning and afternoon breakout sessions, lunch with Petaluma Mayor Pamela Torliatt presenting the award for "Petaluma Woman of the Year," and a closing wine and cheese party.
The keynote speaker is Marilyn Kentz speaking on "Fearless Aging." Kentz, a native of Petaluma, of the '80s television show, "The Mommies," has gone on to perform stand-up comedy. Her real-life tales of suburban life, domestication, family, marriage and other odds and ends serve as her comedic trademark. Kentz will be sharing her humorous perspective on "Fearless Women."
Part of the morning's activities will be a "Good Morning Petaluma Show" patterned after television's "Good Morning America." In a variety-show setting, women will share their stories of hope and empowerment with vital information to their own health.
The Petaluma Woman of the Year Award, presented by Mayor Pamela Torliatt of Petaluma, honors someone who has done something to improve or enrich the lives of women in Petaluma that distinguishes this person from other women in the community. The nominee need not live in Petaluma. The nomination form can be found on the WCAG website. In addition to the Petaluma Woman of the Year award, there will also be opportunities to highlight other examples of phenomenal women and showcase their positive influence in the community.
The day will include a panel of professional speakers who will talk about women's health, stress reduction, balancing women's roles, caregiver support, money matters, taking care of me, laughter yoga and decluttering home and office. WCAG believes that it will be life changing for many!
There will also be a marketplace for book signings, crafts, merchants and opportunities for pampering. A wine and cheese party, along with a special guest, "Thirsty Girl" Leslie Sbrocco, who will talk about restaurants and wines, will end the day. Sbrocco is an award-winning author, writer, speaker, wine consultant and television host. Her work has been published in O, the Oprah magazine, Coastal Living, Woman's Day, Good Housekeeping, Glamour, and Santé. She is also the host of KQED's Check Please, Bay Area.
This event promises to be an inspirational gathering of women to empower themselves with information and ultimately design healthier lives. Its vision is to celebrate, educate and inspire women, to increase awareness of the symptoms and risk factors of gynecologic cancers and to provide support to women affected by cancer. The conception and credit of this event belongs to Lydia Zipp, who has survived ovarian cancer and founded the Women's Cancer Awareness Group, an organization that brings awareness and love to the forefront. Its motto is "Raising awareness, one conversation at a time."
The cost for the day is $25.00. For tickets, please call 707 769-8325. If you would like to learn more about WCAG, please contact them at 707-769 8325, go to www.WCAGroup.net or email WCAGroup@yahoo.com.
